Chia Kwok Wei, Legal Counsel at Messrs S K Song law firm Johor Bahru

About Mr. Chia Kwok Wei

Mr. Chia Kwok Wei holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Multimedia University and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2010. Since joining Messrs S.K. Song, he has developed a broad litigation practice that covers civil disputes, employment matters, and debt enforcement. His ability to manage multiple types of cases makes him a versatile member of the firm's legal team.

General Litigation

Within the firm's litigation portfolio, Mr. Chia handles a wide range of civil claims. This includes contractual disputes between businesses, personal injury claims, negligence actions, and neighbour disputes over property boundaries or nuisance. He regularly appears in the Magistrates' Court and Sessions Court in Johor Bahru, and has assisted senior counsel in High Court proceedings. His familiarity with the Rules of Court 2012 and the various practice directions issued by the Johor Bar Committee ensures that filings and procedural steps are completed correctly the first time around.

Employment Law

Employment disputes form a significant part of Mr. Chia's workload. He advises both employers and employees on matters arising under the Employment Act 1955, the Industrial Relations Act 1967, and the Trade Unions Act 1959. For employees, this often means representation in wrongful dismissal claims before the Industrial Court or assistance with claims for unpaid wages and benefits. For employers, he provides guidance on disciplinary proceedings, retrenchment exercises, and compliance with the ever-changing landscape of employment regulations in Malaysia. His dual perspective — acting for both sides at different times — gives him a balanced view of what outcomes are realistic.

Debt Recovery

On the debt recovery front, Mr. Chia assists creditors — including small business owners and trading companies — in pursuing unpaid invoices and loans. His work ranges from drafting statutory demands under the Companies Act 2016 to filing winding-up petitions and executing judgment through garnishee orders and writs of seizure and sale. He understands that cash flow is critical for small businesses, and moves quickly to obtain enforcement orders where debtors fail to respond to initial demands.
